Watching Jiang Xiyue openly admit that she was the one who did it, Bai Ning's mouth twitched slightly.
She had truly experienced firsthand just how decisive Jiang Xiyue was when it came to getting things done. They had only talked about it that afternoon, and within just a few hours, she was already seeing it on the news that same evening.
As expected of a villainess who showed up in the later part of the story, her capabilities were something else. Although Bai Ning was genuinely grateful for what Jiang Xiyue had done, she was also a little scared now.
Compared to her own family's scale, Nan Group was slightly smaller, but it was still considered a major conglomerate in Yun City. And Jiang Xiyue had only just arrived in Yun City, yet she had already dealt Nan Group a massive blow.
Although she hadn't spent much time with Jiang Xiyue, Bai Ning could already sense that Jiang Xiyue, perhaps because of her family background, had a very single-minded personality. She was the type who would stop at nothing to get what she wanted.
That kind of person was genuinely terrifying, whether as a friend or an enemy.
Jiang Xiyue: [I listened to what you said, I didn't have anyone do anything too serious. How does it feel? Do you need it taken up a notch?]
Reading Jiang Xiyue's message, Bai Ning's mouth twitched again. This wasn't serious? This was more than enough to keep Nan Ziyue locked up for a very long time.
Though, compared to how Jiang Xiyue had originally planned to handle things, this really was quite a bit lighter.
Bai Ning: [It's fine. Best case scenario, she gets to live in there for the rest of her life.]
Sure, they said they'd go through the proper legal channels, but nobody said they couldn't add a little seasoning to the mix. Besides, compared to letting Nan Ziyue go out quickly, it was way better to have her rot in there for life.
A pampered young lady from a wealthy family suddenly reduced to a universally despised prisoner, no matter how you looked at it, was a far better outcome than just finishing her off directly.
Jiang Xiyue: [Got it, I'll go give the order right away.]
Watching Jiang Xiyue's response, a look of puzzlement crossed her face. Bai Ning couldn't figure out why Jiang Xiyue seemed so interested in her. Could it really be just because she had wandered into Jiang Xiyue's room in a daze after being drugged that one time and done something she shouldn't have?
But as the head of the Jiang family, Jiang Xiyue should be well aware of these kinds of situations. If it turned out to be someone's setup, her standing could absolutely plummet.
And also, why would she leave Mo City when she was doing perfectly fine there, just to come develop in Yun City? Sure, Yun City had some market potential, but all things considered, it definitely couldn't compare to Mo City.
Replaying her interactions with Jiang Xiyue in her mind, along with the times they had played games together, Bai Ning furrowed her brows as one possibility after another surfaced in her head.
It couldn't be because of her, right?
That absurd thought had barely appeared before Bai Ning flung it right out of her mind.
Well, there was some chance of it, after all she was the female lead of this story, so it was perfectly normal for a villainess to be drawn to her. But it probably wasn't to the point where someone would travel all this way from so far just for her sake, right?
The image of Jiang Xiyue's calm and pretty face floated into her mind. Bai Ning smiled to herself. She was overthinking it. There was no way she came here for her. But if it really was for her, then so be it, she'd just accept it.
Rubbing her somewhat sore temples, Bai Ning leaned back against the couch.
Her identity meant her life was never going to be ordinary. All she could do right now was take things one step at a time.
Besides, she was the female lead. And this wasn't a tragedy. What could possibly happen to her? Sure, she might suffer a bit more along the way, but even when a great calamity struck directly, she only got the hem of her outfit slightly dirty. What was there to be afraid of?
Seeing Nan Ziyue get what she deserved had put her in a great mood. She turned and headed toward her room. It was rare for there to be no villainess causing trouble right now, so she was going to go get a good night's sleep.
Once in bed, she sent a quick check-in to Ning Xue and Su Youmeng, letting them know she had already been discharged and was back home. As time passed, Bai Ning drifted off to sleep.
Just like that, several days went by.
These past few days had been genuinely peaceful for Bai Ning. Nan Zha was busy absorbing Nan Group's assets and had come around rarely, only dropping by occasionally to check on Bai Ning. Ning Xue used to come hang out with her in the evenings, but it seemed like she had found something to keep herself busy with, and hadn't come over in the evenings for the past few days.
As for Jiang Xiyue, ever since they last parted, other than calling Bai Ning to play games every day and occasionally chatting with her on the messaging app with questions that were hilariously random, nothing much else had happened between them.
This left Bai Ning happily enjoying the peace and quiet. When none of them came looking for her, correction quests rarely got triggered. She had also used the car accident as an excuse to take a very long leave of absence, so she didn't even have to go to school. She was having a great time lounging around at home every day.
But gaming alone was still a little too boring. So bright and early that morning, Bai Ning called both Ning Xue and Su Youmeng to come over to her place. More people around would definitely make things more fun.
Even though hanging out with Ning Xue had a very real chance of triggering some correction quests, Bai Ning didn't care. After all, out of all these villainesses, Ning Xue was the easiest one to handle.
No matter how weird the quest got, she believed she could pull it off.
Don't underestimate the bond between her and Ning Xue, okay!
Since she had called early in the morning, Ning Xue arrived quickly. Su Youmeng, however, had apparently been pulling an all-nighter working on a manuscript and needed to sleep in, so she said she'd come over in the afternoon.
"Xiao Xue, you're here!"
Bounding over to open the door, Bai Ning broke into a big smile at the sight of Ning Xue standing outside.
Unlike how she'd been dressing these past couple of days as a total homebody, she had actually put in some effort to get herself ready today.
She had on a fitted white knit top, paired with a plaid over-the-knee pleated skirt. Her hair was pulled up into a high ponytail. Combined with the bright smile on her small face, she radiated pure energy.
Ning Xue had been working the night shift these past few days and hadn't been sleeping well, but the moment she saw Bai Ning's outfit, she perked right up.
"Xiao Ning, you look gorgeous."
The compliment slipped out instinctively. She got the feeling that Bai Ning seemed to be in an especially good mood today.
"Right? Do you notice anything different about me today?"
Hearing Ning Xue's praise, Bai Ning's smile grew even wider. She rose up on her tiptoes, spun around, and waited expectantly for Ning Xue to spot the change.
"You got even cuter?" Ning Xue was stumped by the question and ventured a tentative answer.
"It's not about the outfit, it's something else. Can you see if anything about me has changed?"
Bai Ning shook her head. Even though Ning Xue still hadn't noticed, she wasn't discouraged, and instead dropped a little hint.
Something about her?
At that, Ning Xue almost instinctively shifted her gaze to Bai Ning's front.
Compared to how things were at the start, the change here really had been quite significant. And all of that was thanks to her own tireless efforts every time she came to Bai Ning's place in the evenings.
But shouldn't this have been noticeable for a while already? Ning Xue still couldn't figure out what was different about Bai Ning.
"Better figure?"
Seeing that Ning Xue still hadn't guessed it, Bai Ning couldn't help but look a little deflated.
"I actually grew taller, I grew 1 centimeter!"
Was it really that hard to notice?
She had spent tens of thousands of feedback value for just 1 centimeter, you know.
Clearly taking a hit to her confidence, Bai Ning's smile faded a little.
System: [Even if you grow another 10 centimeters, you still won't escape your fate of being on the bottom.]
Bai Ning: "Get lost!"
