Chapter 74: Emergency Escape? Don't Ask Where the Danger Came From

***

But if she had to go to the lesbian bar alone, she was still a little scared. After all, Yun City was a very open and inclusive city.

Before, when she overheard someone say something like "your type is top-tier in Yun City," it might have just been teasing, but now she was genuinely scared. She was afraid that if she walked into that bar and had a drink, she wouldn't know anything after that.

And then wake up the next morning feeling sore all over.

There was no way she could tell Nan Zha about this. Even though Nan Zha was reliable, if she found out Bai Ning was going to a lesbian bar, she might look at her with a weird expression, and Bai Ning might even lose Nan Zha, her only friend.

That was the last thing she wanted to see. Thinking about everything that had happened recently, Bai Ning couldn't help but sigh.

She used to think Nan Zha would be the hardest one to deal with, but it turned out Nan Zha was actually the best one.

Jiang Xiyue was openly thirsting after her body. Ning Xue seemed normal before, but her behavior lately had been a little off too. There was no concrete evidence, but something just felt wrong.

Su Youmeng watched Bai Ning go quiet after asking her question and start zoning out, and she had no idea what to make of it. She asked and asked and then just stopped talking, and seeing that Bai Ning still wasn't reacting, Su Youmeng was starting to lose her patience.

"You got any more questions or not? If not, I'm going to sleep. Don't waste my time, I still need to play games after I wake up."

Oh right, isn't there someone right here!?

Su Youmeng's family had a business partnership with Xia Zhichu, and they even held shares in the bar, so she was basically one of the bar's owners.

A bar owner going to check on how business was going at her own bar, that was a perfect reason to go.

Bai Ning stared at Su Youmeng, her eyes practically lighting up.

Feeling a little unsettled by Bai Ning's weird stare, and thinking back to the question Bai Ning had just asked, Su Youmeng shuddered and hugged herself, saying warily:

"I'm straight, okay, we're not compatible."

A vein popped on Bai Ning's forehead. She gave Su Youmeng a smack on the head, rolled her eyes, and thought to herself that Su Youmeng's brain worked in the most baffling ways. There was no way to predict what she was thinking.

System: [You're calling someone else's brain baffling?]

The system seemed to be genuinely amused by what Bai Ning said.

System: [Think back to before I showed up. You forcibly kissed the villainess, fed the villainess a major zap, got drugged and then ran straight to the villainess. Who are you to talk?]

Bai Ning: "T-that was emergency evasive action, you're just a machine, you wouldn't understand."

System: [Oh sure, sure, emergency evasive action, emergency evasive action. But where exactly that danger came from in the first place, you're awfully quiet about that, aren't you.]

Bai Ning's face turned bright red. She was starting to wonder if the system was the one trying to farm feedback values, roasting her every single day.

She calmed herself down a bit and looked at Su Youmeng, who was still staring at her with a weird expression.

"I'm not interested in someone with a kid's figure. Relax."

She said it with a dismissive look on her face, and before Su Youmeng could even fire back, she kept going.

"Are you free? If you are, come with me to Xia Zhichu's bar tomorrow. Ning Xue seems to be working there and I'm a little worried."

Realizing Bai Ning wasn't saying what she thought she was saying, Su Youmeng let out a long breath of relief, then got a puzzled look on her face.

"Ning Xue? Didn't you already get her a bunch of easy part-time jobs? Why did she go get a part-time job at a bar? And a lesbian bar at that."

She remembered Bai Ning taking really good care of Ning Xue, even asking her to help find some easy, well-paying part-time work for her. Why would she need to go work at a bar on top of that?

Wasn't that just making life harder for herself for no reason?

Thinking about it, Su Youmeng felt like something was off. She had a feeling she'd figured out the truth, and she gave Bai Ning a suspicious look.

"This isn't just an excuse you made up because you want to go to a lesbian bar yourself, is it?"

Bai Ning: ???

How did the conversation loop back around to this again?

What kind of image did she even have in front of Su Youmeng at this point!?

Honestly, for someone who sees everything through a dirty lens the moment they form a first impression, it doesn't matter what you say, they'll always twist it into something weird.

"Just tell me if you're coming or not."

Seeing that Bai Ning looked completely serious and it didn't seem like a joke, Su Youmeng stopped messing around.

"Fine, I'll come, but I'm busy these 2 days. I need to prep for my final exams, I've got a paper to write."

Saying that, Su Youmeng's face twisted into pure suffering. Damn that paper, it had been torturing her for days. Sure, what she wrote was a complete pile of 💩, but at least it was her own pile of 💩.

And then when she went to turn it in, the plagiarism checker came back at over 40%, saying the paper was AI-generated. Su Youmeng had lost it on the spot. You can say her thesis is garbage, you can say her writing is trash.

But calling the 💩 she had painstakingly produced AI-generated? So in a fit of rage, she raged a little, then obediently took it back to revise.

"Well, that sounds like quite the rich life." Bai Ning stifled a laugh.

"I'm going to sleep. Tomorrow's problems are for tomorrow. They have nothing to do with who I am right now."

Su Youmeng pulled the blanket over herself, closed her eyes, and went straight to sleep.

Whatever, she just wanted to sleep, sleep, sleep.

Seeing Su Youmeng close her eyes and actually go to sleep, Bai Ning also felt a wave of drowsiness wash over her, and she closed her eyes to rest as well.

......

Looking at the balance on her phone, Ning Xue's face broke into a happy smile.

Even though she had only been there a few days, she had already made more than what used to take her an entire month to earn.

It's just that the bar's clientele was a little unexpected. Thinking back to some of the scenes she had witnessed over these past few days.

Ning Xue's cheeks flushed slightly. She thought she had already seen plenty on the internet, but reality turned out to be even more surreal, with far more variety than she ever imagined.

She was a fairly traditional person, it's just that every time she faced Bai Ning, something inside her became impossible to hold down. She always wanted to take Bai Ning completely for herself. She had managed to keep herself in check for the first 2 months, but by the last month she really couldn't anymore.

But she was also afraid of scaring Bai Ning, so she could only resort to this plan. As long as Bai Ning was asleep, there was nothing to worry about.

And Xia Zhichu was the best boss she had ever met. She paid her daily wages and even checked in on her day-to-day life, buying her milk tea and things like that.

At first she had been very on guard. After all, Xia Zhichu was the owner of a lesbian bar, so her being this nice felt wrong no matter how she thought about it.

Tricks like "asking for a friend" type lines didn't work on her. She might be inexperienced, but that didn't mean she had zero experience.

But later she noticed that Xia Zhichu really did seem to just be asking casually, and would even occasionally ask about things between her and Bai Ning, offering little suggestions to help her get closer to Bai Ning.

She figured maybe Xia Zhichu was taking care of her out of consideration for the fact that she was Bai Ning's friend, so she relaxed.

And besides, since Xia Zhichu was the owner of a lesbian bar, she definitely had plenty of insight into how girls go about pursuing other girls.

When the time was right, she could go ask her for some tips.
