“There are now two choices before you.”
“First, I can help you stabilize your ‘Momentum’ and let you finish what you still have left to do. But once everything is over and the ‘Momentum’ disperses, you will still die.”
“Second, I can forcibly stop the ‘Momentum’ right now. The price is that your cultivation will be ruined, and you will become an ordinary person, but you will live.” Chu Feng gave Lin Yu two choices.
Lin Yu laughed brightly and said in a firm voice, “Many thanks for your kindness, Brother Chen, but there are some things I absolutely must do.”
“Compared to that matter, I cast life and death aside long ago.”
Chu Feng looked him straight in the eyes. “I know your choice now.”
Joy appeared on Lin Yu’s face. “Many thanks for granting my wish, Brother Chen. I have no hope of repaying you in this life. In the next, even if I must serve you like an ox or a horse, I will still repay the kindness you have shown me today.”
Chu Feng said nothing. He raised his hand and pointed through the air.
A stream of force infused with Spiritual Qi shot into one of Lin Yu’s Acupoints, and the Spiritual Qi instantly surged through every part of his body.
It halted the ‘Momentum’ within him that had been on the verge of dispersing.
“You have one day left.”
“One day? That is enough!” When Lin Yu heard how much time he had left, not the slightest trace of fear appeared on him. That cheerful smile never left his face.
Seeing that, Chu Feng felt an indescribable heaviness in his heart.
“Where do you plan to go next? I will take you there,” Chu Feng asked.
“The Primordial Yang Sect!” Lin Yu’s face turned cold, and he gritted his teeth as he enunciated each word.
“Very well. I will take you there.” Chu Feng responded, then said to Su Yanran outside the carriage, “To the Primordial Yang Sect.”
“Yes.”
Su Yanran urged the carriage onward and headed at full speed toward the Primordial Yang Sect, unwilling to waste the little time Lin Yu had left.
Inside the carriage, Chu Feng and Lin Yu chatted idly.
During that time, Lin Yu told Chu Feng many stories from the past. Some were about his days training in the Shaluo Spear Imperial Guard, while others were amusing anecdotes from his childhood.
Chu Feng sat quietly to one side, acting as a silent listener while Lin Yu recounted his life.
Time slipped away little by little through their fingers.
Half a day later, the carriage entered the largest city in Shuxia Domain. The Primordial Yang Sect was less than a few dozen kilometers from the city.
Chu Feng, Lin Yu, and Su Yanran entered the city together, the three of them walking down the streets side by side.
The moment Lin Yu appeared, quite a few martial artists immediately recognized him, and all of them were stunned.
None of them had expected Lin Yu to be so bold. He had killed so many people from the Primordial Yang Sect, yet he still dared come here.
Lin Yu ignored their stares.
Coming here had been his own suggestion. Chu Feng had helped him so greatly.
All he wanted before heading to the Primordial Yang Sect was to treat Chu Feng to a meal as a sincere expression of thanks.
Chu Feng did not refuse, and so the three of them came into the city together.
Just then, Lin Yu’s eyes lit up, and he ran toward a street stall. A short while later, he came back holding three sugar figurines.
He handed two of them to Chu Feng and Su Yanran, then happily licked his own like a child.
“It has been so long since I last ate a sugar figurine... This one does not taste as good as the ones Grandpa Li used to make.”
After taking a few bites, Lin Yu lowered the sugar figurine. A trace of disappointment appeared on his face as he murmured softly.
Chu Feng glanced at Lin Yu.
The Grandpa Li he was talking about was the man who had raised him.
From their earlier conversation, Chu Feng had learned that Lin Yu came from a very, very small village in Shuxia Domain.
He had grown up without parents, and the village chief, Grandpa Li, had taken him in and raised him.
After growing up, Lin Yu left the village and enlisted in the army. Later, because of his outstanding performance in the military, he had been exceptionally promoted by the commander of the Shaluo Spear Imperial Guard...
As for what happened afterward, and why he eventually left the Shaluo Spear Imperial Guard, Chu Feng had not heard him mention it.
After adjusting his emotions, Lin Yu brought Chu Feng and Su Yanran into a restaurant and ordered a full table of dishes.
As the three of them ate, the number of people in the restaurant gradually dwindled.
Before long, they were the only three patrons left.
At that moment, a cold-faced man walked into the restaurant with his arms folded, an ancient sword clasped in his hands.
Chu Feng raised a brow, surprise appearing in his eyes.
He recognized this man.
He was none other than Gu Feng, the swordsman who had always followed Chu Jingshan.
The moment Gu Feng stepped into the restaurant, he swept his gaze around once. When he saw Lin Yu, his eyes immediately sharpened.
But as soon as he noticed Chu Feng sitting beside Lin Yu, a trace of surprise appeared on his face.
Then, without the slightest hesitation, he turned and left at once, as though he had never come at all.
Chu Feng was clearly an unpredictable variable. As long as Chu Feng was there, Gu Feng would not dare make a move against Lin Yu.
Because he knew perfectly well just how serious the matter behind Lin Yu truly was. If even the slightest rumor leaked out, Chu Jingshan and even that person in the palace would both be implicated.
“What a formidable swordsman,” Lin Yu said, setting down his chopsticks. As he stared at Gu Feng’s departing figure, a grave look appeared on his face for the first time.
“He is indeed strong. What interests me, though, is why he appeared here,” Chu Feng said in a low voice.
Back in Juexia Valley, when Chu Feng first encountered Lin Yu killing Ye Yong, then later befriended Lin Yu, he might still have believed it was only a coincidence.
But the moment he ran into Gu Feng here, Chu Feng immediately felt that someone had been plotting against him, dragging him into the middle of a storm.
But who exactly was pulling the strings behind all of this?
Was it Chu Jingshan? Or one of the other princes? And what exactly were they trying to do?
Chu Feng had no answer.
All he knew was that he disliked the feeling of being used in someone else’s scheme.
Chu Feng watched Lin Yu carefully and discovered that Lin Yu himself had no idea his encounter with Chu Feng had been arranged by someone else.
Only after confirming that Lin Yu was merely a pawn did Chu Feng’s expression ease.
“That swordsman came for you. You still have a chance to regret this,” Chu Feng said calmly.
Lin Yu smiled faintly. “Is that so? Then I am actually rather eager now.”
“In the past, I never would have dared dream that I would one day cross swords with someone that strong.”
Upon hearing that, Chu Feng drained the wine in his cup and said nothing more.
Throughout the entire meal, neither Chu Feng nor Su Yanran ate much. Only Lin Yu had a hearty appetite and polished off the entire table of food.
After eating his fill, Lin Yu wiped the grease from the corners of his mouth, rose to his feet, and picked up his long spear.
“Before dying, for me, Lin Yu, to have met both Brother Chen and Miss Su can already be counted as a life without regrets.”
“Brother Chen, Miss Su, farewell!” Lin Yu cupped his hands and spoke with solemn sincerity, then turned and walked out of the restaurant.
Looking at Lin Yu’s back, Su Yanran felt her eyes sting slightly. “Young Master Chu, Lin Yu, he...”
Chu Feng raised a hand. “There is no need to say more. Everything was his own choice.”
“Since he began, perhaps he never wanted to stop in the first place. This is his fate.”
When Lin Yu walked out of the restaurant, the outside had already been packed with martial artists so tightly that not even a drop of water could pass through.
The moment Lin Yu appeared, his expression returned to its former indifference, and an overwhelming vicious aura spread from his body.
The martial artists outside immediately fell silent as cicadas in winter and parted to open a path for him.
Under the gaze of the crowd, Lin Yu left the city and set out toward the Primordial Yang Sect.
