Chapter 10: Does Your Hair Taste Good?

“I’m furious!”

“It’s all Fang Qingchen’s fault. This isn’t over between us!”

“The people from the Security Bureau will be here soon. When that happens, you’ll have plenty to cry about!”

“My dad has already greased the right palms. He’s definitely going to leave you with a criminal record, send you to jail, and make sure you can’t even get into a martial arts university!”

He shot Fang Qingchen a vicious look, his resentment practically overflowing.

In his heart, he had already made up his mind. He was going to use what happened last night to teach Fang Qingchen a brutal lesson!

A family that could afford a Lamborghini was naturally quite wealthy.

With that kind of background, it was only normal that they had connections in the Linjiang City Security Bureau and knew the right people.

As far as he knew, there was an uncle of his in the city Security Bureau who held real authority as a squad captain, and he was on fairly good terms with his father.

Now that the evidence was conclusive, with that man’s influence, locking Fang Qingchen up would be nothing more than a single sentence.

Li Jiangnan left.

Lin Wanxing looked at Lu Qingqian, who was eating even more enthusiastically than a food-streamer.

Then she looked at her utterly useless teammate Gu Tingting, who was eating beside her like she was devouring pig slop.

She was so angry that her delicate fists clenched tightly, and it looked as though flames might burst from her head at any moment.

Her stomach growled uselessly as well.

Yet on her pretty face, she still had to struggle to maintain the image of the cold school belle.

It was truly miserable.

Meanwhile, the more Fang Qingchen watched Lu Qingqian eat, the more shocked he became.

A glutton!

A pure and genuine glutton!

The breakfast box he had brought contained four meat pastries, each as large as a plate and made from B-rank mutant beast meat, as well as two fried eggs made from C-rank mutant beast eggs.

Every one of them was packed with nutrients.

A normal adult could eat at most one meat pastry and be guaranteed not to feel hungry for the rest of the day.

But this little foodie of a girl, Lu Qingqian, might have been taking tiny, delicate bites, yet she made up for it with frequency.

Bite after bite, without pause.

In no time at all, she had already wiped out all four meat pastries!

And there was still a lingering look of dissatisfaction on her pure, flawless face!

Then she picked up the two fried eggs, carefully stacked them together, and popped them into her mouth.

Gulp.

Fang Qingchen swallowed.

He was not hungry. He had eaten far more lavishly than this in the morning.

He was simply made hungry by how adorable her way of eating was.

Perhaps she was too absorbed in eating.

The long hair that had fallen from her temple had been accidentally bitten into the corner of her mouth.

And she had not noticed it at all.

The sight made Fang Qingchen want to laugh, yet at the same time it made his heart ache a little.

He knew Lu Qingqian was not greedy.

She was simply too malnourished.

There was an old saying: scholarship could survive poverty, but martial cultivation demanded wealth.

If one wanted to go far on the martial path and lay the firmest possible foundation, then the body was the most important thing of all.

Meat and fish were only the bare minimum.

For wealthy young masters like Li Jiangnan, every meal was a specially prepared nutritional meal made from mutant beast meat.

As for Fang Qingchen, there was even less need to mention it.

The son of a Martial God, the treasured heir of a tycoon family—his household chefs were among the best in the entire country.

Strictly speaking, the food they prepared had already entered the realm of medicinal cuisine.

It was enough to ensure that Fang Qingchen’s body remained in peak condition at all times.

That was why, even though he had neglected martial cultivation in the past because of his pursuit of Lin Wanxing, his physical rating had still remained firmly within the top three of the class, even without relying on the tempering and guidance of martial techniques.

He had completely crushed classmates like Li Jiangnan, who studied hard, ate hard, and trained bitterly every day!

That alone showed how well he ate.

But Lu Qingqian was different.

To say there was a world of difference between their family backgrounds would still have been flattering to her.

A crippled father, a gravely ill mother, a younger sister still in school, and a strong girl holding everything together.

Just being able to study at No. 7 High School had already exhausted all of her strength.

Many times, after evening self-study ended, she would secretly go work outside the school to support her family.

Even so, she had never let her studies slip.

Not only were her academic grades ranked first in the class and top ten in the entire school, her performance in martial classes was also exceptionally outstanding.

Of the nine required martial arts subjects, she had cultivated seven of them to the Proficient Realm!

Her physical rating had even reached 1.2, tying Lin Wanxing for second place in the class!

She was second only to Fang Qingchen!

For someone like her, who had long suffered from malnutrition, to possess a physical rating comparable to Lin Wanxing’s meant she was completely overdrawing her own potential.

It could be said that every cell in her body was already working around the clock, frantically burning itself out!

At this point, her body was like a high-rise building whose foundation had been hollowed out. It could collapse with a thunderous crash at any moment!

And it was precisely because of that that this special breakfast from a Martial God household, for Lu Qingqian’s nearly emptied-out body, was nothing less than timely rain!

It was practically a life-saving divine medicine!

When the last bite of fried egg went down, Lu Qingqian let out a small, satisfied hiccup.

She felt as though her body had never been so relaxed before.

An unending stream of strength spread from her stomach to every part of her body.

It was as though every cell in her body was cheering with joy.

Ever since she had entered high school, that constant sense of hunger that had never once stopped had suddenly vanished completely.

That wonderful feeling of being full made her feel, in a daze, as though she had returned to childhood.

Her father had not yet been crippled, her mother had still been healthy, and her younger sister had still been innocent and lively.

The family of four sat around the dinner table together, happily eating supper...

“Now that you’re full, you’re zoning out? Throw the food box into the trash. The martial talent test is about to begin.”

Fang Qingchen’s voice sounded out, pulling Lu Qingqian back from her daze.

She raised her head, her gaze falling on Fang Qingchen standing before her, bathed in sunlight as though edged in gold.

Her white teeth lightly bit her lower lip.

She might have been poor, but she was not stupid.

She knew that the value of this breakfast was absolutely far beyond anything she could imagine.

“Thank you for the breakfast. I’ll pay you back in the future.”

A little self-conscious, she turned her head gently to one side.

She did not dare meet Fang Qingchen’s eyes.

Black lines practically appeared across Fang Qingchen’s forehead.

As if I care about being paid back for one meal?

He waved his hand indifferently.

Then he turned and walked straight toward the front of the line.

Looking at his back, Lu Qingqian’s expression became somewhat complicated.

But just then, while walking perfectly normally, Fang Qingchen suddenly turned around.

The abrupt motion startled Lu Qingqian so badly that her heart lurched. Like a thief caught red-handed, she hurriedly lowered her head.

“Lu Qingqian, does your hair taste good? You practically ate it.”

“You said you’d pay me back. Don’t tell me you’re planning to treat me to your hair?”

After saying that, he grinned and turned away.

Swish!

Lu Qingqian hurriedly fixed her hair, her cheeks turning bright red.

She pursed her lips and shook a tiny fist at Fang Qingchen’s back. She looked incomparably adorable.

Too mean!

He had definitely done that on purpose.

He had not reminded me at all while I was eating.

That was what she thought angrily.

Yet that exquisite alloy food box, beautiful enough to look like a work of art, was something she could not bear to throw away.

Instead, she carefully put it into her schoolbag.

This little episode involving Fang Qingchen was utterly inconspicuous within the vast athletic field.

Very soon, the school leaders and all the invited officials had arrived.

Dong!

From the rooftop of the main teaching building, the bronze bell that had stood there since the school was founded suddenly rang out!

Its lingering chime spread in all directions!

And it gradually quieted the once-noisy field.

Chen Guorong, the principal of Linjiang No. 7 High School, strode quickly onto the main platform!

His eyes burned with enthusiasm.

“Honored leaders...”

After a long string of nonsense...

“I now declare that the 36th Martial Talent Testing Assembly of Linjiang No. 7 High School officially begins!”
